7 Day Southern Tour

We’ll meet you at Dar Es Salaam airport, with a warm welcome. From here we head to Mikumi National Park. It’s a little over a 5 hour drive, but we’ll stop on the way for some lunch. After that we should be well into the northern region of the park. 

We’ll spend some time on the savannah, watching the magnificent birdlife. Such as Lilac Breasted rollers, Hadada Ibises and Saddle -Billed Storks which are known forage around the hippo pools. We’ll spend the remaining time until sunset viewing the hippos and other animals enjoying ponds and waterholes. 

From here we head to our accommodation, (not far away) for dinner and a good night’s sleep.

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll drive through the Mikumi Park’s grass-covered plains The low-lying vegetation makes for easy viewing of Zebra, Wildebeest, and Impala. Giraffe are commonly found on the along the edge of the Mkata River. Elephants are also abundant in this region, and can be seen gathering around the waterholes in the evening. 

We should mention that Mikumi’s renowned Yellow Baboons abound here. Mikumi also boasts Africa’s largest population of Elands, and is the best location in Tanzanian for viewing them. 

After a full day of game viewing, we’ll spend time in the local Masai Village, engaging with their unique culture. And after this we’ll go to Camp Bastian for dinner and rest overnight.

After breakfast we leave for Ruaha National Park, about a 5 hour drive. On arrival we’ll start our afternoon game drive in the park. We’ll spend some time at the Great Ruaha River, you’ll be captivated by the snouts, eyes and ears of the hippos appearing just above the waterline. 

Although the 4th largest national park in Tanzania, it less frequented, which affords to chance to take in the wildlife without crowds of tourists. 

Evening dinner and lodging overnight will be at the Ruaha park cottages. 

We’ll spend most of the day following the Great Ruaha, Mwagysi Sand, and the Mdonya Rivers. You’ll be stunned by the isolation, and the silence of this aspect of the tour. Notwithstanding, we’ll pay a visit to the homes of Buffalo, Elephant, Lions and Leopards. 

There is also the magnificent array of vibrantly-coloured birds to enjoy, in this region. Around 6.30pm we’ll muse over the wonders of the day, as the sun sets of over the Great Rift Valley. Dinner and our overnight stay will be Ruaha Park Cottages. 

We’ll take a sunrise game drive before breakfast, after which we’ll complete game drive of Ruaha National Park. After lunch we make our way back to Mikumi, about 5 hours away. And spending the night at Camp Bastian, in preparation for our trip to Udzungwa Mountain and water falls, the next day.

Following a hale and hearty breakfast, we leave for Udzungwa Mountains National Park, roughly 45 minute drive. Put on your hiking boots for the 3 hour trek through lush forests to Sanje waterfall. 

Here you’ll be amazed at the monkeys, especially the rare Iriga Red Colobus found only in this region. We’ll have lunch at the falls, and continue to explore the forest until evening. When you’ll be taken back to Camp Bastian for dinner and rest.

Refreshed from a salutary night’s sleep and refueled from breakfast, we’ll return to Dar es Salaam (5 hour return trip). We’ll drop you off at the airport or your preferred destination. We’ll certainly miss you, and wish you a favourable onward journey.
